This was mentally difficult. Didn't want to ride, didn't want to sissy out. So begrudgingly got on my bike and rode to work. Then, decided at the last minute to do the Big Cottonwood Hill Climb. Admittedly, legs are heavy and tired. Mostly wanted the t-shirt. So after work rode to pick up packet and then home. Was down 5 lbs this morning. Must do better job of eating and drinking. No pics. Sorry.

Ride companion: My thoughts
MapMyRide - 07/07/2010 Millcreek rd/Wasatch/Mouth of Little/Holladay in Salt Lake City, UT
This ride is affectionately a "sneaker." I blew off my morning alarm for a ride when I awoke to howling canyon winds. Not physically and more importantly mentally ready for wind right at the moment. Scared from my ride around Bear Lake from last week. So I have to admit the stars aligned a little when my afternoon meeting ended a little early and I realized I could get out for a little, thereby getting some miles. So I did, before I had to go to Young Mens. It was hot, a little windy, but always does my soul good when I make it out the Cottonwood Canyons. Just to the base of Little. Had to turn left when I got here:

Kind of a bummer. Love Little. But as I was coming around the corner, got a great view of the valley.

It's amazing the things you can see within a 30 minute radius on a bike ride from home.
Also, made it home in time for a hose shower, quick change and then some rock climbing with the YM. I love Utah.

Commute to work and back then a nice little 20 mile recovery ride. Great that you can ride for 6 miles and then be in a beautiful canyon. Went a couple miles up Big to the Stairs Plant and then along Wasatch home. Got to catch the sunset. Lots of kids making out along Wasatch. Ahh, to be young.
Its blurry because she was moving too fast.

Mom, don't worry, it wasn't as dark as this photo makes it seem. Great sunset though.
Ride on......

Days off are good for riding. Got a great ride up to Big Mtn. Summit at 7,400 feet. Rob won the 1st climb (Emigration Canyon) squarely by 45 seconds. I pulled away in the steeps of Big Mountain, as I looked over my shoulder with 200M to go Rob was 100M back, feeling good, glided in, I should have listened to Paul and Phil in my head. Something like this...Paul "Marsh is on today, he is hammering down, Stringham is oblivious" Phil, "Oh my what a finish! Wait, Stringham takes notice and my, oh my, Marsh takes the mountain top finish by a half a wheel." Paul "That goes down in the epic climbs!" Anyway, it was a good ride. Cruised out the last 30 miles.

Met some other Wheeler/HBI guys on the climb. They served as good rabbits. Great view from the summit. Thanks, Rob, Jim, Mike.....

No riding today. Just rest and motivation. To say I have had a "man crush" on Lance is an understatement. I love the tour. Go Lance. Here is something to get you cyclists motivated.

MapMyRide - A ride mapped on 07/04/2010 in Salt Lake City, UT
"Whenever you are feeling down and out, ride Emigration Canyon" - Shawn Stringham. You can quote me on that. This is a magical place. A road, cycling was meant for. After getting my butt kicked in Bear Lake I needed to "take it one day at a time." And, I just love this ride. After the canyon, rode the tailwind out to the mouth of Big Cottonwood. Needed that. Melissa went with me, don't worry, she keeps up.
